THINGS TO KNOW
(What to ask and what to look for)
NOT ALL MINI-SPLITS
ARE THE SAME
-
No matter the product you choose, There are a few key points to highlight:
-
Who is the manufacturer and where is it and the distributor Located?
-
Region of installer and service company
-
System Reliability and energy efficiency
-
What the are all the factors that affact cost (Warranty, service, energy use) of the system operation/service and installation

When purchasing mini-splits systems these are important factors to ensure you get a reliable and efficient system.
Inverter vs Non Inverter
-
Why are Inverters such a big deal - Not only does it make your HVAC system almost twice as energy efficiency but also can allow a heat pump to operate down to single digits temperature in fahrenheit and keep about any space very comfortable.
-
Hyper-Heat pumps take your inverter to the next level and have an increased Seer rating and will comfortably heat spaces when outside temps drops to lows of -15 degrees.
-
Older style standard or two-phase units are no longer a reliable or safe choice for heating and cooling your home. We recommend getting an inverter mini split - you will not regret it.
AHRI Certification
-
AHRI certification ensures that these units have been approved to meet specific safety performance and efficiency standards.
-
Purchasing a non-AHRI certified unit could result in property damage or loss of insurance coverage.

Functionality You Will Love
01 SEER
SEER (seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is a scale for rating HVAC systems on their seasonal energy performance. In simple terms the higher the SEER rating the more efficient is the energy usage. (Aiming for a product with a rating above 18 SEER is ideal). Products on the market today typically range from 16-29 SEER depending on a variety of factors
02 2023 SEER2 Update
In 2023 the DOE (Department of Energy) updated its guidelines on SEER to reference new testing procedures (SEER2). The New SEER2 testing procedures are designed to better represent actual external conditions seen in the field. Previous SEER testing did not account for emulate the effects of ductwork and external static pressure on mini split and other HVAC products. Therefore, this did not give real-world results. By increasing test conditions (external static pressure from current SEER (0.1 in. of water) to SEER2 (0.5 in. of water)), the new M1 tests are overall more accurate to reflect current field conditions.
03 Right-Sizing
For sizing mini split there are multiple sizes factors in play, such as floor space, ceiling height, and insulation in the structure. Also solar exposure, Window factors, type of building structure and how many people are going to be in the space will impact the heat load.
When considering mini split solutions for your spaces, it's recommended to consult an expert on the project and installation.
04 Warranties
Also, mini splits are products that homeowners and others can install themselves; however, very often you will void manufacturer's warranty if the installation was done by someone other than one contracted through the distributor. When you invest in a professional installation, you get the added benifits of warranties that cover parts, compressor, labor/service
Your location, the product brand, and experience level of the contractor together will dictate pricing of installation, along with length and quality of warranty you receive.
